Connecting genomes and environments

A genome contains an organism’s genetic information. Studying it helps us understand how life works, adapts and interacts with its surroundings.

At CRG, we study plants, animals and biological communities, connecting molecular mechanisms with changes in ecosystems. This knowledge contributes to biodiversity conservation and sustainable production.

  1. Five disciplines begin working as one centre

    The CRG is founded as a FONDAP Center of Excellence, bringing genomics, systems biology, bioinformatics, evolution and genetics into the same scientific programme.

  2. The Atlantic salmon reference genome is completed

    CRG researchers contribute to the international consortium that brings five years of sequencing and analysis to completion.

  3. The CRG opens its Millennium Institute chapter

    A new ten-year programme begins on 1 July, supported by four host universities and a broader scientific agenda.

  4. 1000 Genomes Chile returns as open infrastructure

    Its new phase sets out to build a public genomic repository for native, endemic and threatened species, connected to the ecosystems they inhabit.

  5. Alejandro Maass receives Chile’s National Prize

    Chile awards its 2025 National Prize in Exact Sciences to the mathematician and CRG principal investigator.

  6. Seven countries agree to sequence biodiversity together

    At the III 1000 Genomes Workshop, research teams establish a Latin American alliance for biodiversity genomics.
