DNA within everyone’s reach: CRG brings experimental science to Teletón Summer Week 2026
As part of Teletón Chile’s Summer Week 2026, the Center for Genome Regulation (CRG), in collaboration with the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID), held an inclusive science workshop attended by nearly 200 children and young people aged 7 to 14.
The initiative sought to break down barriers and make scientific knowledge accessible through a playful, hands-on experience. Participants became active explorers rather than spectators, investigating fundamental concepts such as biodiversity and the genetic code shared by all living things.
Tangible, meaningful science
One highlight was the extraction of plant genetic material. This experiment allowed participants to see DNA for themselves, turning an abstract concept into something tangible. The workshop also included making biocapsules, an activity combining biotechnology and innovation to show how science develops real solutions in critical areas such as agriculture and environmental conservation.
A commitment to inclusion
This workshop reflects CRG’s commitment to promoting open, inclusive science connected to society, prioritizing opportunities for communities that have historically had less access to science outreach. Beyond conveying facts, the aim is to spark curiosity and encourage critical thinking, demonstrating that science is not only something to study but something to experience.
Through its participation in Teletón Summer Week 2026, CRG reaffirms its role in democratizing knowledge in Chile, fostering environments where learning has no limits and every child can discover that curiosity drives the most important laboratory of all: their own.
