Imagine an ocean full of tiny microorganisms working together to survive. Within these microorganisms exist fascinating entities called Mobile Genetic Elements (MGEs), which act like small couriers exchanging messages that can lead to adaptation in these microorganisms. This collection of MGEs is known as the “mobilome.”

Over 400 Students Participate in the “Gene Hunters Festival” in Nueva Imperial
On June 5th, more than 400 students from 7th to 12th grade, from schools in Carahue and Imperial, gathered at the cultural center in Nueva Imperial to participate in the “Gene Hunters Festival.” This event was organized by the Millennium Institute Center for Genome Regulation (CRG) with the support of Promueve de Bioren. The festival included a variety of scientific outreach activities, such as lectures, photographic exhibitions, competitions, and scientific games.

El pasado 5 de junio, más de 400 estudiantes de 7.º a 4.º medio, de colegios de Carahue e Imperial, se congregaron en el centro cultural de Nueva Imperial para participar en el “Festival Cazadores de Genes”, un evento organizado por el Instituto Milenio Centro de Regulación del Genoma (IM-CRG) con el apoyo de Promueve de Bioren. Este festival incluyó una variedad de actividades de divulgación científica, como charlas, exposiciones fotográficas, concursos y juegos científicos.

Our Associate Researcher Romina Pedreschi presented the results of her study: “From targeted approaches to omics data integration to unravel postharvest disorders” at the prestigious Postharvest Unlimited Conference & Postharvest Ornamentals Symposium, held in the Netherlands from May 14 to 17. Her presentation focused on the research of her Fondecyt project linked to the CRG Millennium Institute research lines, related to the occurrence of physiological disorders in various fruit species.
