IM-CRG and 1000 Genomas bring science to Teletón Summer Week

Children discover DNA through games, experiments and the book ADN Explorador

The Millennium Institute Center for Genome Regulation (IM-CRG) joined 1000 Genomas at Teletón Summer Week in Santiago, sharing a day devoted to science and exploration with children and families from the foundation.

During the activity, participants explored questions such as What is DNA? Do we all have DNA? They discovered that this molecule is present in all living things, from people to plants and animals.

The experience included interactive activities:

• Microscopic observation games, offering a close-up look at organisms and environmental samples.

• Environmental sampling, encouraging curiosity about our surroundings.

• Extracting DNA from an organism, enabling children to see the molecule of life with their own eyes.

Participants also received a copy of the children’s book “ADN Explorador: Preguntas y respuestas para pequeños científicos” (DNA Explorer: Questions and Answers for Young Scientists), a publication created by our institute to introduce genomics to younger audiences through stories and fascinating facts.

“We want science to feel approachable and fun, and children to discover that they too can explore the microscopic world,” CRG’s outreach team emphasised.

Through initiatives like this, CRG reinforces its commitment to science education and inclusion, bringing technology, knowledge and experiences to community spaces where science becomes play and learning.
