1000 Genomas and IM-CRG participate in Congreso Futuro 2025 with an innovation stand
The project brought genomic sequencing closer to the public through equipment, samples and field experiences
At Congreso Futuro 2025, the Millennium Institute Center for Genome Regulation (IM-CRG) presented the 1000 Genomas project with a stand in the Innovation Pavilion, a space where science and technology meet the public.
The exhibition gave visitors a close-up view of state-of-the-art genomic sequencing equipment used by researchers to analyse Chile’s biodiversity. Through field samples and accessible explanations, the public could understand what genomic sequencing is, why it is performed and why it matters for conservation, scientific research and the development of new solutions in health, agriculture and biotechnology.
CRG researchers and science communicators shared with visitors how work is carried out in laboratories and on expeditions to ecosystems across the country, from the Atacama Desert to Antarctica, showing the value of bringing communities and science together in a nationwide project.
“Our goal is for people to feel part of 1000 Genomas, understanding that knowledge of Chile’s genetic heritage is essential for conserving it and planning its sustainable use in the future,” emphasised CRG doctoral student Ricardo Yusta.
Participation in Congreso Futuro consolidated 1000 Genomas as one of the country’s most innovative scientific initiatives, reinforcing the connection between frontier science and society.
