Over 400 Students Participate in the “Gene Hunters Festival” in Nueva Imperial
On June 5th, more than 400 students from 7th to 12th grade, from schools in Carahue and Imperial, gathered at the cultural center in Nueva Imperial to participate in the “Gene Hunters Festival.” This event was organized by the Millennium Institute Center for Genome Regulation (CRG) with the support of Promueve de Bioren. The festival included a variety of scientific outreach activities, such as lectures, photographic exhibitions, competitions, and scientific games.

In an outstanding academic event, the student Jaime Alcorta, from the Doctoral Program in Biological Sciences with emphasis in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology of the Pontificia Universidad Católica, and from the CRG successfully presented his doctoral thesis entitled “Genomic changes related with the adaptation to thermal environments on the origins of Fischerella thermalis species and other hot spring cyanobacteria”.

Our Associate Researcher Romina Pedreschi presented the results of her study: “From targeted approaches to omics data integration to unravel postharvest disorders” at the prestigious Postharvest Unlimited Conference & Postharvest Ornamentals Symposium, held in the Netherlands from May 14 to 17. Her presentation focused on the research of her Fondecyt project linked to the CRG Millennium Institute research lines, related to the occurrence of physiological disorders in various fruit species.
